Southwest Real Estate Blogging Conference: What happens when you blog?

What happens when you blog?

The short and sweet answer is:  You get to connect with people!  And one example of this occurred during yesterday’s Southwest Real Estate Blogging Conference.  No, I am not going to write a summary report of this gathering since this event was already covered by Greg Swan, Jay Thompson, Shailesh Ghimire, Jonathan Dalton, Steven Groves and Calie Waterhouse (and forgive me if I forgot somebody), but this post is merely my own epilogue about this event.

So, why was my answer so short and sweet?  Well, if I had not decided to start blogging then I would have never ever had the opportunity to get to know and meet a lot of wonderful people. The craziest example so far is connecting with Shailesh, who organized the event.  If I had not chosen to blog, I never would have had the privilege to meet him and his wife, Aimee, in the first place, nor to attend this conference.

The connection was made when Shailesh noticed my blog and sent me an email (and I think he stumbled upon my weblog when he was reading Jay Thompson’s blog). He was instantly interested because on my own blog he read about my Austrian Heritage and found a common denominator in that were are both expatriates, married to Americans, and having ties to Austria.  Shailesh’s tie to Austria is though his wife, Aimee, who was born there. As we talked at the Southwest Real Estate Blogging Conference, we discovered that Aimee and I happened to be born in the same town, Mödling in Lower Austria, and perhaps even in the same hospital.  Now, how cool is that…?!  Get it? People can connect on or off-line, or both, because they learn about each other through a new medium, a blog!

Yes, this really happens when you blog…

Some of the real Estate Agents and other industry professionals  who attended the Conference did not have a blog; they barely knew what a blog was or what it could do. Others were thinking about starting a blog. Still others were there because they thought their blog is not “working.”  Time flew by and a little over 2 hours was not nearly enough to quench the audiences’ thirst for information to help them to arrive at their own conclusions about whether or not they wanted to begin to blog or continue to blog.  But, early that morning the blog that may become the Holy Grail of Real Estate Weblogging was revealed: Real Estate Weblogging 101

My take on this blog is that it is a great source for Real Estate Agents to get many of their blogging-questions answered. However, while some things are quite easy to understand and agree upon, a blog, in the end, is personal, a piece of code typed by a living human being and the information available about blogging is going to be interpreted  differently by each person and each blogger creates their own experience.

It was *great* to meet you Christoph! I agree with you, connecting with people is an amazing aspect of blogging.

    Christoph,

The connections from blogging is quite rewarding. It has been for us so far - and our connection is quite electric actually. I mean how in the world could my wife meet someone - half a world away - born in the same hospital (possibly with the same doctor) within a few months of each other.

Aimee was speaking to her mom this morning and they were both very excited.

Anyways - good points. As Greg said in his presentation, a blog is really an extension of you and a medium for relationship. That speaks a lot. To live it - as we have so far - speaks volumes.

    Thanks Christoph,
    Shailesh

Perfect example of connecting was how I came to this conference: Prescott Home Stager Extraordinaire Yvonne Root found me on activerain and invited me to attend. I signed up awhile back for “Free Property Updates” at Greg Swann’s BloodhoundRealty.com so I knew I should go. Shailesh confirmed my appointment, and I was suddenly in Mesa!

Great to meet you all: Shailesh, Aimee, Jay, Greg, and Christoph.

Thanks to all the bloggers that made this possible. Special thanks to Greg Heineman of Commerce Title in Tempe for the fine “Mimis Cafe” gift card door prize which my wife Lynn and I enjoyed that evening.
