I am late – I am late

WatchThis past week I have felt a bit like the rabbit in Alice in Wonderland, always running late, always trying to catch up, and never quite making it. You could call it a “perfect real estate storm” where all the wrong elements came together. One very complex transaction plus several other projects all demanding time equaled a neglected blog. Ah, well, I’m back and determined to do better.

In no special order, I thought of commenting on a couple of subjects this week. First, the negativity factor that I’ve seen creeping into some blogs. I am a strong believer in what my grand-ma always told me. “Don’t say it unless you have something nice to say about it.” Many blogs are either positive or neutral which, I think, is the best way. You don’t have to go further than television news and commentary shows to find negative news, snide comments, and personal put-downs. What disturbed me this week was finding a blog that seemed to exist only to identify and make fun of poorly written real estate blogs. I’m not saying we should sugar-coat topics that need frank discussion, but actively looking for something to make fun of seems to be at best a waste of valuable time and energy, and at worst downright cruel. Who needs it?

Psssssssssst..And that brings me to the reminder that I’ve seen recently that I agree with wholeheartedly. Whatever you write on your blog, whatever nonsense you put on a video, always remember it is there forever. Even if you think better of something you post and take it down, someone may have copied and saved your words. You can’t get them back. If they are hurtful or mean you are stuck with them forever. Saying “I’m sorry” doesn’t undo the damage, whether to someone else or to your own reputation. Before you post, make sure you’d be happy seeing those words next to your photo on the front page of your local newspaper.

So, I’ve survived the madness of this past week and am looking forward to getting back to what passes for normal in my life, and especially to blogging again. Thanks for your patience!

    Great post Christoph!

It’s kind of freaky sometimes how similar subjects come up at nearly the same moment in the blogiverse. Your post, my post, there is a similar post on the Real Estate Tomato as well…

And taking a blogbreak to sell real estate is understandable. It’s what we do after all…

  2. I thought I was the ONLY one who didn’t have time to blog last week. I’m still trying to play catch up. I don’t know how it’s going to work when the market picks back up.
