Artsy Arizona

You can’t go far in the Phoenix area without finding yourself face to face with art. It might be paintings that reflect the colors of our deserts, or sculpture that celebrates the history of the American West. Native American art, pottery, and jewelry are specialties of the area, of course. For residents and visitors alike, there are galleries and world-class museums showcasing the creativity of Arizonans.
Scottsdale is perhaps art central. According to a recent article on azcentral, in Scottsdale you will find more art galleries per capita than just about anywhere else in the U.S. Famous museums vie for attention, and there are a couple dozen art and music festivals each year. Right now through late March, the annual Scottsdale Celebration of Fine Art is in residence with more than 100 artists showcased in one place. The Heard Museum is famous for its collection of Native American art. Out in the desert, visitors can learn about Frank Lloyd Wright’s architecture and design at Taliesen West, a National Historic Landmark.

One celebrated Arizona artist has a special connection for me. This artist’s work has been in exhibitions at such prestigious institutions as: the Whitney Museum of Western Art in Cody, Wyomingl; the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.; the California State University in Fullerton, California and in many others. Take a few minutes to enjoy the whimsical and colorful works by my wife’s aunt, Anne Coe.

How does art relate to real estate? Everything about a city adds to the desirability of the area. A lively art scene – both visual and performing – helps add to the attraction of the Phoenix metropolitan area as a place to live, play, and raise a family.
